Line dancing has risen in popularity over the years with people of all ages flocking to country bars almost every night of the week. With the increase in demand for line dancing in the Tampa Bay Area, numerous country bars are thriving and gaining a reputation amongst the community. A few popular line dancing locations in the Greater Tampa Bay Area include Dallas Bull, Cowboys Dancehall, and OCC Roadhouse & Museum.
The Dallas Bull is a thriving country music venue and nightclub in Tampa, FL. "The Bull" is most well-known for the classic bull photo-op, country concerts, and the hub for line dancing in Tampa. Marketing methods used at "The Bull" are surrounding the crowded dance floor with lit, neon beer signs, pool tables, a disco ball, bar top seating, a concert stage, a VIP area, a bathroom attendant, bouncers, dance lessons, an upstairs club section, and separate women's and men's bar. The Dallas Bull is a proud partner with Bartow Ford, who assists in making concerts happen at The Bull. The bar is active on social media where they post about special event nights and concerts. Line dancers express the bar as lively, populous, and full of talent.
Cowboys Dancehall is a newly renovated line dancing bar previously known as the Waterin' Trough. The location has new owners and recently opened in 2023. Originally the bar was 21+ but due to a sufficient amount of interest from dancers under 21, the bar authorized 18+ dancers by welcoming the younger crowd to enjoy the flourishing business. Cowboys Dancehall has an abundance of western decorations making dancers feel right at home in the welcoming environment. Hanging from the ceiling is a bedazzled horse saddle over the dance floor and surrounding the area are neon light signs, country music stars, taxidermy, pool tables, and a photo-op wall. The line dancing bar is making use of the space with a stage for live music, a trailer turned into a bar, a VIP section upstairs, a merchandise area, a main bar, and an abundance of seating selections. Many marketing staples Cowboys uses to promote their business are the dance lessons, videographer (Vaughn Wilson), live music, social media accounts, Cowboys merchandise, the Longhorn Limo, and partnerships with Spencer's Western World and radio station US FM103.5.
Orange County Choppers, often referred to as "OCC" is a motorcycle shop and restaurant offering outdoor line dancing on Wednesday nights. The family-friendly location offers an indoor or outdoor dining experience for the whole family to enjoy. OCC is best known for loud, lifted trucks, motorcycles, and the outdoor, concrete dance floor. With the location not having an age limit, line dancers of all ages join together to eat, dance, and play pool. Occasionally there will be corn hole games and a mechanical bull. Marketing strategies OCC uses to their advantage are a live music stage, no age restriction, restaurant, bar, dance lessons, and only opening one night a week for dancing. Many people look forward to Wednesday nights at OCC for food, entertainment, and a relaxed night with friends.
With four popular Honky Tonks in the area, there is increasing growth in the hobby and competition between locations. While they are all local, many dancers commute between each bar to get a taste of all their favorite line dancing floors, DJs, and atmosphere on different nights of the week.
